Undergraduate students

Participating in undergraduate research opportunities is an effective avenue for hands-on learning in plant pathology, and is an excellent way for undergraduate students to gain research experience if they are interested in seeking a graduate education.  Our lab seeks motivated and collaborative individuals to become undergraduate research assistants, involved with our research conducted in the laboratory, greenhouse and field settings.  Undergraduate researchers may be involved with research through summer programs (such as the Kelman Scholars program) or through work in the lab during the academic year.  To learn about current opportunities, please contact Dr. Adrienne Gorny, including a copy of your CV and at least one professional reference.

Fellowships and programs for undergraduate students:

Kelman Scholars

Wolfpack Colombia

American Phytopathological Society fellowships

Society of Nematologists awards

Graduate students

Training new plant pathologists and nematologists is an important focus of our lab.  Students with an interest in nematology are encouraged to apply through the department, and requirements for applications may be found at the NCSU Graduate School and the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology Graduate Program pages.  Previous research experience, strong writing skills, and a high motivation are needed.  Interested applicants are highly encouraged to reach out to Dr. Gorny prior to application deadlines to inquire about funding opportunities.  Please include a copy of your CV, brief research interests, and relevant experiences and education.

To develop well-rounded students, graduate projects in the lab are collaborative and cross-disciplinary in nature.  Graduate students in the lab are expected to participate in grant writing and reporting, speaking engagements with a wide variety of audiences, and service in departmental or professional groups.
